Tosja van Lieshout
Tosja van Lieshout (b. 1999, NL) is a visual artist based in Antwerp. She holds an MA in Painting from the Frank Mohr Institute (2024) and a BA in Fine Art from AKV|St. Joost (2020). Her work has been presented at institutions including the Groninger Museum, Kunstpunt Groningen, and Stedelijk Museum Breda. In October 2024, she completed a residency at Ōharano Studio in Japan.
Colours breathe, shimmer, and settle; skies rise in layered gestures—painted, scraped, and reworked—forming the foundation of van Lieshout’s practice. Rooted in classical painting yet guided by intuition, she allows paint, texture, and the behaviour of materials to steer the development of each image. Her works unfold within the inevitability of change, inhabiting landscapes where something is always on the verge of shifting or fading.
Each painting emerges from personal experience, fragments of memory, and fleeting states of mind that surface through the act of making. Titles arise in the same moment, carrying her thoughts, doubts, and emotions, gently guiding the viewer toward the inner space from which the work originates.
