Portrait of a Studio: Sandi Gehring

10 April - 1 May 2026
Enseoul is pleased to present Portrait of a Studio, a solo exhibition by Sandi
Gehring that brings together new work alongside a considered selection from the
artist’s studio archive. The exhibition offers a quiet view into an evolving practice,
where earlier shapes are revisited and allowed to return in new contexts, scales,
and materials.

Working across pastel and oil stick on paper, oil on canvas, and acrylic on raw linen
panels, Gehring’s compositions are built through an intuitive logic: one shape
informing the next, one colour dictating what follows. Throughout, she holds the
internal balance of the image, negative and positive, light and dark, warm and cold,
so that simplicity remains strong and the surface stays responsive.

Gehring’s palette is distinctive: deep, earthy and vivid, drawn from nature and the
landscapes she photographs while travelling. These colours bring a soothing,
calming presence, yet they also carry weight and staying power, leaving
impressions that deepen the longer one spends with the work. Forms are equally
rooted in the natural world without becoming literal. Organic, fluid shapes can
suggest trunk like structures or weathered contours, while remaining open, abstract
and quietly assured.

For Portrait of a Studio, Gehring introduces new works incorporating metal,
extending her language into a fresh material register while keeping the same
sensitivity to proportion and rhythm. Her work speaks as an inner voice, expressing
emotion about the moment and offering viewers time to slow down, look closely,
and contemplate.

Portrait of a Studio is on view at Enseoul from Friday 10 April to Friday 1 May 2026,
with an opening and private view on Friday 10 April from 5 pm to 8 pm.
